Thanks, Superheroes

Air Force Two will be parked outside of Rochester’s International Airport (RST) today. The Vice President of the United States will be spending his lunch hours in a meeting with Gov. Tim Walz. Despite different political backgrounds, the two will be visiting Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic to learn about a new coronavirus testing model that will boost the state of Minnesota’s capacity to 20,000 COVID-19 tests daily. It’s no surprise that Minnesota is leading the charge in COVI9-19 testing and the federal government wants to duplicate it.

On this #NationalSuperHeroesDay, we honor those essential workers in Rochester, Minnesota and around the world instead of the ones in comic books. Heroes can be both real and fictional in today’s world, and we are seeing that now more than ever.

“This is not a state that’s just going to get through COVID-19; this is a state that’s going to lead this nation and the world out of this,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said of his “moonshot” idea. In a White House briefing last week, Vice President Mike Pence applauded the Minnesota governor for his approach on aggressively testing for the virus. Now, Vice President Pence wants to see what that “moonshot” idea looks like first-hand.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Pence is scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion with Mayo employees about a variety of things. Minnesota has one of the lowest confirmed cases per-capita in the country, and if Pence’s visit with Mayo goes well, Pence will basically put a down payment on Mayo’s project and spread it out to the nation to help slowly open back our businesses.

The Mayo Clinic is heavily involved and ahead in COVID-19 testing and treatment as the world waits to see the products developed right here in Minnesota.
