Grant applications are now available for the spring installment of the Hennepin Youth Sports Program (HYSP). Administered by contract through the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (MASC), the HYSP will award funds to Hennepin County municipalities, park districts and schools to create, expand or improve recreational facilities and to purchase new equipment.
Spring opportunities include a total of $125,000 for playground awards and $125,000 for equipment awards.
The program is funded by the 0.15% sales tax surcharge in Hennepin County that enabled the construction of Target Field. Since 2009, the program has awarded over $23 million to communities throughout Hennepin County and awarded projects have spurred over $90 million in matching funds. To view award history, click here.
Playground and equipment applications are evaluated on the number of youth served, partnerships between local government units and non-profit or youth sports organizations, and the ratio of matching funds to the amount of funds requested.
Applications are due April 19, 2021. The MASC will make award recommendations for Hennepin County Board consideration and approval in May, 2021.
