NSC and MASC staff celebrate Earth Day with campus cleanup

The National Sports Center (NSC) and Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (MASC) staff were excited to celebrate Earth Day by participating in the Great Global Cleanup and implementing sustainability improvements across NSC facilities.

Staff volunteers gathered in small groups over two days to clean up the NSC’s outdoor fields. With over 50 soccer fields, that’s a lot of ground to cover! Special attention was given to areas surrounding the water retention ponds. These ponds are a direct water source for field irrigation, allowing NSC Agronomy staff to use less than 35% of the 64 million gallons authorized annually by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Victory Links Golf Course deployed a brand new fleet of E-Z-Go electric golf carts. This upgrade from a traditionally fueled fleet will help improve air quality by eliminating direct emission pollutants and reducing life cycle emissions.

Thanks to an Anoka County Recycling Grant, new waste and recycling receptacles have also been deployed across campus. The new containers will increase overall waste diversion by providing centralized collection locations and encouraging visitors to sort disposable items properly.
