March is almost over and we’re in the midst of awesome spring weather that’s helping with course prep. It certainly feels like the golf season can’t be too far off now! Dust those clubs off and get ready, because we’ve made some changes while you were away and there’s a lot to look forward to this season at VLGC!
Full-course Bunker Renovation Project
We’re thrilled to announce that the course is having every single bunker renovated! The old sand is being removed and is being filled with a new, higher-quality grey sand. Many of the old bunkers are also being reshaped to improve playability and aesthetic appeal. Half the course was completed last fall after we closed down for the season! We anticipate the remainder of the project will take roughly one more month to complete, but will not impact our opening date, and will not require us to shut down any holes while golfers are on the course.
New Fleet of Electric Riding Carts
Kick off the 2021 season with a ride on one of our new top-of-the-line EZ-Go electric carts! These premium riding carts will have all the bells and whistles, including 7” digital displays above your head, which can be used for a variety of functions. GPS shielding technology will allow us to track the current location of every cart, and will allow us to draw digital boundaries, which will cause the cart to automatically reduce speed if crossed! We hope this technology will help us spot areas of slow play much quicker, and help reduce wear and tear on our grass!
Cart Path Paving/Repaving
Several stretches of cart path have already been paved and/or repaved. Hole #12 is finally fully paved—no more gravel road! The “dip” on the path going around the pond on #10 has been fixed and smoothed out, so don’t worry about that one anymore. And best of all, there’s no longer a sea of bumps going around hole #4 green—it’s silky smooth now!
New Maintenance Facility
This spring, ground will be broken on a brand-new $3 million dollar maintenance building that will be a game changer for our turf crew. Located next to the Super Rink across from hole #10, the new facility will provide our guys with a much better work environment, with way more space, and a much more ideal location–being literally right next to the golf course! This is something that they’ve desperately needed for years, and we’re really happy for them that it’s finally happening!
Other Updates/Info
2020 was an unprecedented year in many ways, and like the rest of the world, we were forced to change the way we operated our business in order to provide a safe environment. Though we aren’t able quite yet to return to the “normal” we all want, we will start the season closer to normal than how we ended the season last fall! Here are some of our updated rules and procedures:
- Players now have the option once again to remove the pin if they wish.
- Return to two people per cart (individual carts can be rented for an additional fee).
- Daily beverage cart service will be back!
- Pro Shop will remain closed for the start of the season—hopefully will re-open soon!
- No large-group youth golf activities are currently scheduled for the first half of the season.
I’m sure we’re not alone when we say we can’t wait to get this season started! See you all back out here soon!
