The USA Ultimate U.S. Open and the Youth Club Championship, two different elite ultimate events held side-by-side at the National Sports Center, wrapped up on Monday, August 6, with the crowning of champions — in a way that had never happened before.
A total of 121 teams competed in both tournaments, representing five countries, and 29 different states.
The championship matches of the U.S. Open on August 4 were broadcast on ESPN. Congratulations to the U.S. Open champions:
Men: Seattle Sockeye; Mixed: Minneapolis Drag’n Thrust; Women: Boston Brute Squad.
The youth title matches the next day were delayed twice due to thunderstorms, and that’s where the championship picture got a little muddy. With teams needing to catch flights home, for perhaps the first time in USA Ultimate history, the final round at a major championship event was unable to be completed.
The result is that the Youth Club Championships have co-champions for the first time ever. Here are the co-champions:
U-20 Boys: Atlanta ATLiens and Boston BUDA
U-20 Girls: Maine Rip Tide and Triangle (N.C.) Warhawks
U-20 Mixed: Indianapolis INcognito and Seattle Bankroll
U-17 Boys: Oregon Eruption! and Seattle Horizon
U-17 Girls: Maine Rip Tide and Triangle (N.C.) Warhawks
