Becoming a soccer referee has a long list of advantages. I think the most rewarding thing about becoming a referee is the fact that you’re helping grow the game.
Without referees, there’s obviously no gameplay—the strongest way to develop skills in the sport. A new grant program presented by the National Sports Center, in conjunction with the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), hopes to eliminate the referee shortage across the state of Minnesota by covering all costs for new referees including course certification and apparel kits.
Available until March 30, candidates with a flexible schedule who are seeking ways to make extra money are encouraged to act fast on this special opportunity. Whether you’ve played the sport or not, becoming a referee can help build leadership and communication skills.
Completion of the course will present recipients with their Grassroots Referee Tier 1 Certification, the most common entry-level certification.
The referee course certification will give you great knowledge of the sport of soccer. Increased knowledge about the laws of the game not only makes you a better referee, but a better player and fan as well.
The entry-level certification training package is just the beginning of a long journey of growing the game of soccer in our community. There are not too many things that a person can do that pays off as well as being a referee. The game isn’t possible without all of the dedicated officials. Being a well-respected referee is a responsibility most should strive for. Managing all those emotions while maintaining self-control is true way to build character, and learning to manage confrontation is exactly the sort of thing people need and what employers desire.
