More than 80 girls took part in the National Sports Center’s Premier ID College Combine on Sunday, Feb. 7 in the M Health Fairview Dome at the NSC. The combine was made available to girls with graduation years 2021-24.
Before the event, participants attended an hour-long virtual seminar about college recruitment. The seminar featured Macalester College Assistant Soccer Coach Tori Burnett. Tori went through tips and tricks for navigating the recruitment process.
On the day of the combine, the first group of girls took to the field at 7:30 a.m., and the second group followed at 10:15 a.m. Training sessions were lead by Tori Burnett, Emily Cripe of Hamline University, Ashley Haflett of the University of Sioux Falls and Danielle Mendez, assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer at St. Olaf.
Field players and goalkeepers spent the first portion of the combine going over specific, position-related drills before playing full-sided games.
Coaches from over 60 colleges and universities attended the event (mostly virtually) and are able to access livestream footage via the NSC YouTube channel.
While the combine opened the door for connections to be made between players and coaches, athletes will get another shot at impressing coaches at the NSC College Showcase, another recruiting event that will take place April 10-11.
