National Sports Center awarded for economic impact

The National Sports Center, and Twin Cities Gateway CVB have been awarded for their efforts in hosting the 2018 World Broomball Championships, Oct.29, 2018 – Nov. 3, 2018. Sports Destination Management acknowledged the two organizations for contributing more than $1 billion to the national economy over the past year.

The 2018 World Broomball Championships was one of 12 small-market champions recognized for the award. Partnering organization, Meet Minneapolis, took home a large-market award for its hard work in hosting the 2019 NCAA Final Four.

During the week-long event, visitors accounted for booking a total of 4,748 hotel rooms and contributed to a total economic impact of $2.3 million. This was the third time the event was brought to Blaine, competitors came from more than 10 countries including Australia, Japan, Canada and European countries.

The championships set records at the Super Rink for attendance, had over 100 volunteers working and 6,000 spectators. Visitors who came from across the world spent an average of nine days in town, creating economic impact that goes back into the community in which we live.

The National Sports Center plans to enter future bids for upcoming World Broomball Championships. The Broomball League at the National Sports Center enters its 13^th year at the Super Rink, supervised by World Broomball Championships Co-Chairs, Al Stauffacher and Spencer Arvold.
