Today marked the start of Target USA Cup soccer tournament for 2019. For the next week, 1,152 teams will play games and participate in activities around the National Sports Center campus. At the same time we hope to introduce you to some of the players, referees, staff, and fans that make this event happen. Meet our 2019 Faces at the Cup for Friday, July 12.
Jack Cortes – Volunteer Coordinator Intern
Jack comes from Prior Lake, Minnesota, and this is his first ever Target USA Cup. Jack is spending most of the tournament helping coordinate all of the wonderful volunteers that are helping during the cup from the volunteer check in tent. He is excited to take in the experience of Target USA Cup as well as meeting all the international teams that have travelled for the tournament.
Will Stevens – Member of the Iowa ODP Blue Boys U13 Team
This is also Will’s first year at Target USA Cup. The Iowa ODP Blue team brought together a different mix of players for Target USA CUP. Because of this he is excited to be playing with a different group of players. Iowa ODP is having a lot of fun at the tournament and players are looking forward to their next game.
Elissa Rodriguez – Target USA Cup Referee
Elissa is no stranger to Target USA Cup. Hailing from Anoka, Minnesota, Elissa has been a ref for four years now and played in the tournament when she was younger. After many years of being around the tournament, her favorite part of Target USA Cup is coming back and seeing friends from past years. Elissa also likes to meet all the other referees and have the chance to work with referees from different countries.
Firebirds SC Black – Girls U14 Team
The Firebirds team travelled six hours to come play in Target USA Cup and are having a blast so far. The Firebirds are excited to play against different teams at Target USA Cup, and were happy to see they got to play against a Canada team for their first game of the tournament.
