In October of 2020, Gov. Tim Walz signed into law a $1.87 billion bonding bill meant to pay for infrastructure improvements across the state of Minnesota. Included in these improvements, the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission received a total appropriation of $6,087,000 for the purposes of asset preservation and grant funding.
The bill designated funding to the Mighty Ducks Grant Program and also brought a new statutory charge for the MASC to develop and administer a grant program for skate park construction and renovation. The Mighty Ducks Grant Program received $2,000,000 allocated for local government units to improve indoor air quality or eliminate the use of R-22 refrigerant in ice arenas. The new skate park grant program will have the opportunity to provide $250,000 to local government units for the purpose of skate park design.
The MASC also received $3,837,000 for improvements at the National Sports Center including asset preservation and the construction of a new maintenance facility.
