For the second year in a row, the NSC Spring Ice Show was cancelled. But that didn’t stop Irondale senior Emily Miller from performing one last routine in front of her mother and coaches. At center ice, Emily posed for pictures next to a blue star with her name painted on it before her warm-up music began. This would be Emily’s last routine at the Super Rink after what would have been her senior program in the 2021 Spring Ice Show.
Emily is a US Figure Skating double-gold medalist (Moves in the Field & Solo Dance) and has passed her Junior Freeskate test. Emily’s been a part of the Northernette’s Synchronized Skating Team for the last three years and has played a huge role in being a junior coach for NSC’s Learn to Skate program. In addition to her accomplishments on the ice, off the ice Emily has already attained her two-year degree from Anoka Ramsey. “Emily has been a great role model for our younger skaters throughout her time here,” Jane Schaber said. “We will miss her presence at the rink as she moves onto college in the fall!”
It was an emotional day for all after Emily performed her final routine. “It was pretty sad putting this last skate together,” Emily said. “It’s great that people are supportive here and decorating for me. It really means a lot.”
The support Emily has received in her skating career is something the senior was incredibly thankful for. Emily’s coaches at the NSC have seen her grow up and become an excellent skater and mentor to little girls around the rink. Her presence at the Super Rink will be missed by all who came in touch. Emily hasn’t decided on a college to attend for the 2021-2022 academic school year. The 2022 NSC Ice Show will take place April 29-30.
